2012 Warriors take Boys and Combined State "AA" Championships!
The rain and cold did not hold the Warriors back as they stepped out onto the track and fields! There were great performances from all the Warriors with many Gold and a Silver medal finishes! A number of the relays came close to breaking State records if it wasn't for the weather. The Boys took the State "AA" Title while the girls fought hard and finished 4th. They all came together as a team and finished as the State "AA" Combined Champions! Kari Heck was honored as MVP for the girls for the second year in a row. Great job to all the Warrior athletes and coaches on a amazing season and BACK TO BACK CHAMPIONSHIPS!
2011 "AA" Boys State & Combined Team CHAMPIONS -
Girls took 2nd place!
The Warriors came out strong on the track and field - not only with their talent but with their hearts. Coach Gebhart, with tears in his eyes, shared how many of the athletes made some personal sacraficies for the team. One individual sent the team a message after the meet that truly reflects how "Special" this group of athletes were during the season:
"I just want the Warriors Track kids to know how many parents/grandparents complimented you on sportsmanship durring the year. Pretty tough being a big school, and still having the time and concern for your fellow athletes. I saw many of you as did these other towns parents, help, give a lift and smile to their racers all year. It reflects you and your coaches and how track has all building Charecter for you and them. Winning and competing is one thing, showing up for these life skills...that is the real deal. Great effort and never quit."
Kari Heck made history again by taking home 4 Gold Medals (100, 200, 400, Long Jump) - being the 2nd athlete in SD history to win Gold in all 4 events. Other Gold medal winners were Alex Waddell (400, 4x800), Alex Homes (4x800), Aaron Clemens (4x800), Scott Strand (4x800), and Chris Parker (High Jump). There were a total of 56 medals earned for the Warriors!
